Pete love!
Paul Cornell, of the 'Wisdom' mini-series is going to be taking over New Excalibur (sayonara Claremont!) and Warren Ellis is going to be taking Astonishing X-Men. I AM IN FUCKING COMIC HEAVEN.

Newsarama: ...is there anything specific that fans can be looking forward to reading when they read Warren Ellis' Astonishing X-Men?

Warren Ellis: Oh, the usual, you know. Raping your childhoods, using my position to destroy everything you love, displaying opinions you may not agree with and writing with my own voice and personality. All the things people hate in commercial comics these days. And yet, all the things I am specifically hired for. It's a funny old world.

I think, once this comes out, I will be able to die happy. <3 Does anyone know where Joss Whedon's run of Astonishing is at right now? I want to know who's died, who's alive, that sort of thing. I can't wait to find out who will be the team when Ellis picks them. And I'm expecting, if Kitty's part of his team, she might even MENTION Pete Wisdom actually EXISTS. SHOCK!! PSAG!! NO WAI!!

Warren Ellis is a fucking sex bomb. How I love him so. You know, when he goes on-board, I might start picking it up.

Everything Warren Ellis touches turns to gold. Or plutonium, or something. He's one of my all-time favorites, and he'll be the only reason I'm willing to wade into the midst of a canon I haven't kept up with in, oh, ten years? :P For him, though, it's worth it. If he has Kurt on his team, I'll fucking DIE, but I don't know how likely that is.

That Paul Cornell guy is pretty damn cool too. 'Wisdom' was the first thing I've seen to really do Pete justice since Ellis invented him.

Agreed. I don't think I've ever bought a 616 X-Men comic that wasn't related to House Of M. I mean, I read X-Factor and the branch off teams but not Astonishing or X-Men or anything. But, if Warren Ellis uses just a fraction of his talent, I won't be able to resist pick it up. As for Nightcrawler, I'm sure that if Mr. Ellis has big plans for him, he can get him in there.

Oh man, yes. I read those issues of the newest Wisdom. They were hardcore, he really did an awesome job on Pete and everyone else.

I LOVED what happened with Pete's old flame at the end, dude, that was so killer!! I love Pete so damn much, and it was awesome seeing him potrayed so well again. And so very hardcore, yes. :D

I used to read some of the comics, I was HUGE into X-Men (:ahem:Kurt:ahem:) when I was younger, but there's like, umpteen million different series, I never even tried to keep up, especially when I stopped going to the comic book store for ages. I should research what the hell's been going on, but I'm hoping Ellis will at least give us enough info to get an idea without having to hunt down ALL the prior issues. :P

I hope he has plans for Kurt. I think I could die happy if I got to see his take on my boy (though I haven't been interested so much in canon*Kurt for a while, I'm afraid the priest thing is way too prevalent and has probably overshadowed the rest of Kurt's character, at least in the hands of some of the writers that have done him. I miss swashbuckling piratey Kurt. ;_;)

Oh good Gai, I loved that part. It's hard to put into words... it was dramatic yet simple at the same time. Amazing writing through the entire thing.

Yeah, it's a pain to catch up on comics with tons of issues AKA 'X-Men' which hit a huge number recently. I love the mini-series ones, like Wisdom, Iron Fist (although it's going pretty far. They said at first it was gonna be about four issues and it's on seven now, I think. I'm not complaining.) Doctor Strange, MadroX, etc. Mmm, if I suggest any comic book out right now that's not a mini-series, it's X-Factor. I've been buying them since the first issue. It's on... 28? I think. The last issue was the first one I missed. It was a tie in with something else and it sold out in hours. But yeah, you should try and pick up X-Factor. Or at least skim through a few issues while mooching in a comic book shop.

Wikipedia FTW. I wonder if MarvelWiki has been created yet? Diskworld has it's own Wiki so I'm sure Marvel and DC have their own, too. You might miss a few details but most of the time the current plot/disaster/death/epic battle last for about a dozen issues or so. Plus, I'm sure when Mr. Ellis joins it won't be in the middle of a story.

Knowing Mr. Ellis, if he does have plans for him, they will be epic and full of WIN EXPLOSIONS. I think the whole thing with the Priest was a really good idea, but I agree with the fact that it's really shitty when writers have it overshadow his actual character and just turn him into a Priest who is a blue demon instead of a blue demon who happens to be a priest. Know what I mean?

That was exactly what I thought about it, dramatic yet simple. Very subtle and understated, he didn't need to add in any over-dramatic dialogue or anything, just let the events speak for themselves. It was beautifully done.

What characters are in X-Factor? ...Is that the one that brought Pete back? O_o Sounds familiar.

As for a Marvel Wiki, I typed that into google and found this which says it's a 'Wikia Wiki' so maybe that fits the bill? I haven't really looked at it yet so I don't know. :)

Fuck yes, Ellis is almost incapable of doing anything NOT brilliant with a character. I hopehopehope that he'll have Kurt in it. I imagine if he did, he'd probably do something really awesome with the priest aspect, if he addresses it. Come to think of it, I loved how he handled Kurt in Excalibur, so I know the elf would be in good hands. No letting Kurt's priesthood be more important than Kurt himself, damnit. :P

Exactly! No words were even needed. SO good~ &hearts

Mmm, they don't have Pete there, sorry. There used to be an old X-Factor but this is a new series. It has Madrox, Wolfsbane, Rictor, Strong Guy, Monet, Siren, and Layla, who was in House of M. It's amazingly good. If you can, I'd start early because they get into it with the X-Men and it's pretty dramatic and epic. I love it.

Hmm, I've never heard of that place before. :/ I bet it'll have tons of info!

Agreed 100%. We must place trust in our Internet God!

My bad, I looked him up on that Wiki and it was X-Force that he was in for a while. I read a few issues because of Pete and wasn't a big fan. :P

Sounds good...do you know if they have any TPBs of it yet? 28's not too hard to catch up to, but my local comic book store doesn't really keep back-issues so it might be hard to find the older ones if I want to start it at #1 (which I would.)

Yes, our Internet God has never steered us wrong, and when he has it was only for our own good! XD
4th-Sep-2007 04:20 am (UTC)
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of X-Force. Too much "ARG LOOK AT MY MUSCLES" and Rob LOLfield.

Yeah, they have TPB. I believe the second was is coming out very soon. The first issue is epic. The art is mindblowing.

I LOL'd. Because it's true~
4th-Sep-2007 04:42 am (UTC)
LOLfield, OMFG I LOL'd. XD

Ooh, might have to check out that TPB. Any idea what the title of the first TPB is?

Yes. Yes it is. [bows and scrapes before our mighty and powerful internet god]
4th-Sep-2007 04:57 am (UTC)
He and J.K. LOLing should get together and have horribly muscled wizard babies.

Yes! The first and second TPB are titled The Longest Night and Life and Death Matters. They have a delicious sale for them~

:O :O :O :O

You didn't tell me this was by Peter David!! Okay, I might have to buy those after I get paid this coming weekend...
4th-Sep-2007 05:02 am (UTC)
It must have slipped my mind! And yes, he does a brilliant job on them! I hope you like 'em! &hearts
4th-Sep-2007 05:07 am (UTC)
He does a brilliant job on everything he does! Remind me to pick these up, if I forget!

Ha ha, dude, I just regaled Bridgie with a couple of Liefeld's pics. I showed her that famous absolutely hideous picture of Captain America first (how in hell did that actually get published?!) but then I found this. http://howtokillpeople.com/2007/03/29/the-50-worst-comic-book-characters/

Look at entry number 28, 'Vogue'. The man has NO concept of basic human anatomy, it's gone beyond sad into just plain scary. XP
5th-Sep-2007 08:34 pm (UTC)
Oh Gai, I hate Rob LOLfeld. He copies tons of stuff, too, and badly.

HERE is a good example. HERE and HERE are two things that crack me up everytime.

6th-Sep-2007 01:38 am (UTC)
Those are gold! LOLfield sucks so hard. How in the hell does he keep getting work?! I wonder how popular he is...do you know if he gets on Wizard's list of most popular artists?
7th-Sep-2007 03:26 am (UTC)
I dunno, but I do know that he has a hoard of fans. Apparently enough to keep his ass from getting canned.
7th-Sep-2007 03:28 am (UTC)
When will people learn. Stop buying crap and less crap will get made. XP
7th-Sep-2007 03:50 am (UTC)
I couldn't agree more. I actually find myself, loudly, going "LIEFEEEEEEEEELD!" in comic book stores anytime I see a cover done by him. I'm lucky the people I hang out with do the same thing but to random people in the store, I'm sure I look crazy balling my fists and shouting random names to the heavens.
8th-Sep-2007 01:00 am (UTC)
I would dearly love to see that. Of course, I'd have to pretend I didn't know you immediately after, but I'd be rejoicing inside, seriously. ;)
